Paul Sacaridiz Born in Brooklyn, NY, 1970 Education: School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, MFA, 1998 New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, BFA, 1993 School of American Crafts, Rochester, NY, 1998-1991 Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, 1992 Lives in Bloomington, IL Paul Sacaridiz observes the evolving cultural impact of ornamentation and design. He recontextualizes prosaic molded forms to reveal the subliminal meanings embedded in contemporary product design and historical architectural adornment. Sculptures and installations utilize dramatic shifts in scale and repetition to transform familiar domestic icons, such as cake molds, from functional frivolity to utopian structures of ancient origin. The work speaks to a secular spirituality that pervades Western society’s worship of lifestyles driven by market research and consumer desires.
