Michael x. Ryan Born in Syracuse, NY, 1956 Education: Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia, PA, BFA, 1979 Tyler School of Art, Rome, Italy, 1978 Lives in Chicago, IL Michael x. Ryan’s refined drawings and three-dimensional installations capture the evaporating movements of our peripatetic urban lives. His obsessive, circuitous mappings of his daily travels, accompanied by meticulous journals, absorb one into the complex invisible matrixes that we all create. His reliefs based on the patterns of random stains found on urban sidewalks and the shifting cast shadows of trees reveal the elusive nature of time as an accomplice in leaving evidence of one’s transitory existence. upcoming exhibitions
