Steven Heyman Born in Los Angeles, CA, 1952 Education: School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, MFA, 1980 Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine, 1980 University of California at Los Angeles, BA, 1976 Lives in Chicago, IL For painter Steven Heyman, the phenomenon of light is a seductive passion. Through its manifestations as glazes of acrylic color, he sees light as the primary measure of perception, both optically and symbolically, as he creates reverberating works that are not only viewed, but experienced. He freshens an established formal language with a vocabulary of his own idiosyncratic shapes, culled from the mundane realities of the everyday and the mysteries of the cosmos. The resulting images are radiant compositions of objects both known and unknown, illuminated and hidden. upcoming exhibitions
