L.J. Douglas Born in Sellersville, PA, 1948 Education: School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, MFA, 1977 Philadelphia College of Art, Philadelphia, PA, BFA, 1975 Lives in Bloomington, IL L. J. Douglas investigates the nature of identity. Balancing objective fact with carefully crafted fiction, her abstract paintings are a fusion of sources that include genetic coding, historical figure painting palettes, as well as observations of human skin with the eye, microscope and computer. She explores both the fluid and fixed attributes of identity, questioning the dilemma of 21st century society that increasingly relies on the ostensibly objective fields of science and medicine to define the outer - and the inner-self.
